ABOUT

BIO

Keshav Luchman is an Italo-Mauritian visual artist, born in Milan in 1999 and currently based in Lisbon, Portugal. His multicultural upbringing plays a central role in shaping both his worldview and artistic sensibility, informing the dualities and psychological undercurrents that define his work. After several years in Zurich, where he pursued technical studies, Luchman transitioned toward a fully artistic path. Though rooted in a different discipline, that period
helped cultivate the discipline and critical inquiry that now shape his visual practice.
Working primarily in black and white photography, with a background in drawing and oil painting, Luchman is entirely self-taught. He is best known for his monochromatic photographic style, which fuses classical composition with a psychologically charged atmosphere. His work explores themes of identity, introspection, existential tension, and the interplay between the conscious and
unconscious mind. Deeply rooted in philosophical and psychological inquiry, his images often evoke unease and ambiguity, offering visual meditations on the fragility and fragmentation of the self. Through symbolic iconography and layered compositions, he aims to bridge perceptual experience with conceptual reflection.
Now based in Lisbon, Luchman is actively engaged with the city’s dynamic art scene. In contrast to its expressive, color-driven visual culture, his black and white work carves out a quieter space - marked by stillness, tension, and restraint. The city provides fertile ground for experimentation and evolution, allowing his visual language to refine itself through dialogue, contrast, and conceptual layering. He is currently developing new projects that explore the identity of the contemporary civilian within the context of the modern
metropolis - examining themes of anonymity, displacement, and the
psychological impact of urban life.
